Pumpkin October! 🎃🎃🎃
Fall Flavors & Portland, OR
When you think of October you think of cooler nights, and warm flavors. Starbucks started promoting their Pumpkin Spice drinks in August. I just can’t! I have put together some of the pumpkin recipes for you and a quick two-day trip to Portland, Oregon. I hope you enjoy.

Sometimes I like to make my own pumpkin puree. You need to use the small sugar pumpkins, not the thin-walled Jack O’ Lanterns that one carves up. Here is a simple recipe:

Pumpkin Cupcakes that everyone will love! Moist and rich with spices!
I love making loafs of spicy goodness! Here is a Pumpkin Pecan Bread for you to try. It is flavorful and moist. After it cools, wrap it up and put an orange bow for a gift! Pecan Bread Recipe
Two Days in Portland, Oregon. Here are some of my favorite places to go in Portland

Powells City of Books! A full city block, 4 stories and over a million books. Trust me, if you go with someone shopping decided on a time to meet a few hours later in the coffee area. You will lose each other! The place has used and new books. Out of print books and even a rare book room which is great to check out. Lots of gift items too.

Huber’s (Since 1879) A historical restaurant! I always look for the oldest restaurant in the city I am visiting. If they have been in business more than 100 years it must be good! Huber’s didn’t disappoint in the least. From the interior to the food! The art glass ceilings are so beautiful. Known for Spanish Coffee created table side and Turkey. Some of the moistest turkey I have ever had. It came with all of the trimmings, A little Thanksgiving early, but hey, if Starbucks can have pumpkin, I can have turkey!

Spanish Coffee Tableside!
Broder Cafe: Perfect neighbored breakfast restaurant! Sits on a walking street that has been closed to traffic. Swedish fare and so good! Try the bacon! It is perfect. You will not go hungry after a meal here. Lines form early, and weekends, get there when they open!

The Falls! Drive north of the city towards Mt. Hood and stop at Vista House as your first stop. Great art glass in this octagon building. Also, they have maps of all the falls that are running north. Parking is tight in the larger falls, but worth it. I think we stopped at about 8 different falls! The trees, greenery and nature are overwhelming.
And Finally….

Ken’s Artisan Bakery. Oh My! You will want one of each of everything! We were headed to the airport, and I should have bought pastry on the first morning we arrived. This is defiantly the stop for the best pastry and bread around. In the quant Nob Hill/Alphabet District with smaller cafes, large older homes and cute shops. You will not want to miss out on the Morning Buns! The Mochas have a dallop of real whipped cream that you will wish you had more of! Every city needs a Ken!
